Commemorating its 20th Anniversary, Malaysia’s top optical chain store Focus Point threw a lavish dinner at the exclusive Shangri-La Hotel in the heart of Kuala Lumpur on 25 March ‘10. Themed “Focus on Green, Point to the Green”, it was most befitting for a company established way back in 1989 to lend its support to the environment by creating awareness to its staff and customers. It is among the pioneer optical store to develop eco-friendly range of Eyewear with its suppliers.

Even though 2009 was a trying year for Focus Point due to the sluggish economy, Focus Point however emerged a winner of the industry by growing leaps and bounds while receiving numerous awards and accolades for its efforts, most notably, two highly acclaimed awards – “Franchise of The Year” Award presented by Malaysian Franchise Association and “8TV Entrepreneur Award for 2009” by the Malaysian Retailer-Chains Association (MRCA).

President & CEO of Focus Point, Dato’ Liaw Choon Liang in his speech stressed on the importance to understand the needs of today’s customers and to fulfill these needs.  Dato’ Liaw also took the opportunity to thank all Malaysians for their continuing support which was Focus Point’s primary source of motivation to keep improving and innovating.

He also reaffirmed Focus Point’s commitment to continue and to expand their annual Blood Donation Drive to reeducate the public over the shortage of blood supply at the National Blood Centre. 2009 also witnessed the founding of “Focus Point Caring Hearts Charity Foundation” which resulted in Dato’ Liaw presenting a donation amounting RM45,000 to selected charities at the annual dinner.

This year, with the economy getting back to its feet, Focus Point is ambitious to continue its winning streak by opening another 20 new outlets in addition to its existing 140 branches. Focus Point is targeting an incremental sale of 20% by expanding its market share to 3%. Dato’ Liaw also announced that Focus Point’s expansion plan to the South East Asian region, namely Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam is currently underway with a joint venture company, Seen@Dempsey in Singapore.

Dato’ Liaw expressed his heartfelt thanks to all valued franchisees, business partners, suppliers, and fellow Focus Point colleagues for their hard work and support. He also conveyed his gratitude to all Malaysians for trusting Focus Point to care for their well being, hence making it able to achieve its dream of becoming the top optical chain stores in Malaysia!
