The Franchising & Licensing Association of Singapore (FLA) selected five outstanding franchise companies for the coveted FLA Award 2010. The five – Spinelli Coffee Company, Cambridge Child Development Centre, Kenko Reflexology and Spa, Home Inns and Hotels Management and The Pizza Company received their awards at the FLA Gala dinner on 21 Oct from Guest of Honor, Mr Inderjit Singh, Member of Parliament (Ang Mo Kio GRC) and Deputy Chairman Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE).
Well-known international coffee chain, Spinelli won the prestigious ‘Franchisor of the Year’ award, beating another reputed coffee company Trung Nguyen Coffee, Vietnam’s number one coffee brand with 1,000 outlets in the country.
The Franchisee of the Year award went to Cambridge Child Development Centre (Cambridge), which was founded in 1993. It is a premium preschool brand in Singapore, offering programmes for children from 18 months to 6 years of age, with upper-middle income families as its target market. Cambridge won the award against two other contenders – MindChamps Preschool and Ya Kun Kaya Toast.
Kenko Reflexology and Spa (KENKO) was awarded the Promising Franchisor of the Year Award. The company, which started in 1991, is a leading full-fledged wellness service centre specialising in foot reflexology with more than 25 Foot Reflexology and Fish Spa outlets in various prime locations in the region. The company is planning to open its 14th outlet in the fourth quarter of 2010 in Singapore. The other contenders for this award were Marble Slab Creamery, Colorwash and Snackz It.
Two companies – Home Inns and Hotels Management and The Pizza Company were awarded the International Franchisor of The Year. Headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, The Pizza Company has over 200 branches nationwide and is the pizza market leader in the dine-in, delivery and take-away business. Home Inns was founded in 2002, with 674 hotels in 126 cities in China.
Franchise Star Achiever Award 2010 Winners
Three other well-established companies – 7-Eleven, Cherie Hearts and Informatics – received the inaugural Franchise Star Achiever Award 2010. These awards were given to recognise their vigorous expansion plans and strong brand presence in the region. Companies with a minimum of 50 outlets through franchising or other expansion methods were presented the Bronze Franchise Star Achiever Award, with Diamond being the highest tier category presented to Singapore-based companies.
