Trained in the heart of London and metropolitan Hong Kong, Mike Loh is well known among the hairdressing circle for his artistic flair and innovative hairstyles, which charts the trend for hair design in Malaysia. As the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Snips Hairdressing Group, he single handedly grew the company from a small establishment in Sungai Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur in the 90’s to what it is today. The group’s success can be attributed to Mike’s exceptional management style and public relations skills, which steered the company to greater heights.
As a group, Snips has scored many first by pioneering the hair rebonding technology and the ceramic wave perm technique in its outlets at a time where many salons were still using the traditional hair perming techniques. Apart from that, the company was also the first hairdressing chain in Malaysia to franchise its business to China, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia & The Middle East. As a result, the company now has 15 branches in Klang Valley, all managed under 3 labels – Snips, Signature and Spins.
The training ground
The Snips Hairdressing Group also established its education arm in 1998 by forming the Snips College of Creative Arts (SCCA) which is the only 1st International Hairdressing School in Malaysia. Formerly known as SNIPS Academy, the college runs various hairdressing courses to meet the market demand for skilled and creative hairdressers in the country. As an accredited college by the National Vocational Training Council (MLVK), the training provided at SCCA strictly complies with the government’s requirement to prepare prospective students for the national training certificate (SKM) and is highly regarded by many to be on par with some of the best hairdressing schools in the Asia.
The group is no stranger to high profile events having been consistently invited to participate and contribute its expertise in various beauty pageants and television programmes such as Astro Chinese Beauty Pageant, Astro Talent Quest, One in A Million, Sepang F1 Circuit Hair Show Hi-End Hair Fashion Showcase, Hair & Make-Up Grooming and many others.
