Anthony Geisler was looking for a better way to relieve stress. The CEO of a public gaming company, Geisler had excelled in business, but his health was suffering, the result of too many 20-hour workdays. Lifting weights didn’t ease the stress, nor did running or traditional workouts with a personal trainer. He had tried it all, and nothing worked. Then Geisler discovered LA Boxing.
Geisler’s route home from work in 2002 took him past the original LA Boxing in Orange County, CA, which first opened in 1992. Curious, he stopped in to check it out. The 3,400-square-foot gym was dark and dingy, but it had an amazing vibe and energy unlike anything he had ever experienced. Almost instantly, Geisler was hooked. He hit heavy bags, and his stress vanished. He got in the ring, and his self-confidence soared.
A few months later, he saw an opportunity – fix up the gym, add high-fashion retail, and try the unique boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts concept in other areas. Geisler approached the owner with the idea of starting a franchise.
Geisler opened his first LA Boxing gym in March 2003, then his second in September 2003. Both Southern California locations flourished. In February 2004, Geisler formed the LA Boxing Franchise Corp. to be a support system for other entrepreneurs wishing to open their own LA Boxing gyms. The first territory sold in October 2004, and the first franchise store opened in New Mexico in February 2005.
Today, LA Boxing is the world’s largest boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts gym franchise. It has set the standard for boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts-themed gyms, and has helped tens of thousands of people – from sports stars to everyday folks – reach their fitness potential.
